How to Apply

apply

Participants currently represent a multeity of functional roles, span five payroll grade levels including midlevel professionals and entry-level managers, and reflect the ethnic diversity of the overall University workforce. STRIVE participants and alumni serve in leadership roles in their departments, as well as on campus-wide strategic initiatives.

Eligibility

Non-represented employees in VC-CFO, VCHS, VCR, and EVC (VCAA, VCSA, VC-EDI) who have demonstrated leadership potential, have at least a one-year work history at UC San Diego, have an overall performance rating of at least “Above Expectations” and have no disciplinary action active or pending are eligible to be nominated.

Selection Process

Solicitation for new candidates takes place annually during July, contingent on availability of resources. Eligible employees will be invited to apply through nomination by the Division Manager, Department Head or Dean’s Office. Final selection is determined by the Selection Committee and STRIVE Director/Assistant Director. The nominee must complete an online application which includes short essay questions, upload a current resume, and identify an additional endorser who is in an MSP position, is a faculty member or researcher, or is someone at least one classification level higher than the nominee.

Essay Prompts for STRIVE Application

If invited to apply for the STRIVE Leadership Development Program you will be asked to complete the online application. The application includes the following two short-answer essay questions. There is a character limit noted for each question, but please remember - this is indeed a maximum; excellent answers are not measured by length.

  1. What are your career goals and how do you think participation in the STRIVE program will help you reach these goals? (maximum character length 3000)
  2. What else would you like us to know about you? (maximum character length 2000)
